The Rita R. Dermody Legal Help Center is now open for its full schedule. Named in honor of retired Director Rita R. Dermody, the Legal Help Center (LHC) will operate on the following days:
In the King County Courthouse in downtown Seattle: Monday, Tuesday and Friday mornings
In the MRJC in downtown Kent: Thursdays from 9 – Noon and 2:30pm – 4:30pm
The LHC is managed by our Public Services Attorney, Marc Lampson, and will provide free, limited legal help to patrons whose questions fall within the scope of its services. This includes:
- helping patrons find and complete court forms
- getting information about what court rules to follow
- explaining how to initiate or respond to legal proceedings
Patrons who need help from should arrive at the library with all of their paperwork anytime between 8:45am and 9:00am. There is no advantage to arriving any earlier because at 9:00 am patrons will draw a random number and then have a brief chat with the attorney as a matching number is drawn “from the hat.” If after the chat it seems we can help you further, you will be given an appointment for later that morning.
The LHC will not represent patrons in court or other venues or provide ongoing services.
